Message from the Director General
for the 2022-2023 School Year

Stephen Pigeon, Director General
The beginning of the 2022–2023 school year is well underway and already the routine is settling in. What a joy to be able to evolve again in a normal context, without wearing a mask, allowing us to see and appreciate the smiles of our staff, students and their parents!
I am entering my ninth year as Director General of the Central Québec School Board (CQSB) and I must admit that I consider myself privileged to work alongside a team of people who are passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic about the success of our students.
As you know, the CQSB is constantly evolving and although its mission remains the same year after year, its landscape is changing, improving, and refining itself, always for the benefit of its students.
The beginning of the construction of the new South Shore Elementary School is a good example of this, considering that, in a near future, our elementary students living on the South Shore will no longer have to cross over to the North Shore every day to get to school.
In the same spirit, other changes and improvements will also be on the agenda this fall and, in this regard, we will be holding public consultations concerning the service offer of schools in the City of Québec’s metropolitan area. Complete details can be found in the “Public Consultations” section of our website.
Of course, our regional schools are not left out, especially with the construction of a new gymnasium for our school in Chibougamau, the expansion of our elementary school in Saguenay, the major renovations to our schools in Shawinigan and Thetford Mines.
That being said, while new buildings and renovations are most enjoyable, our most important value is unequivocally human capital. The well-being of both our students and staff is at the heart of our priorities and all our actions are geared towards that goal. Acceptance and respect in all its forms are fundamental values that we promote and uphold in order to allow everyone to learn and grow in safe environments where diversity and inclusion are an intrinsic part of our culture.
On behalf of the management team, thank you for choosing to entrust your children to the Central Québec School Board.
Have a successful 2022–2023 school year!
Stephen Pigeon
Director General
