Construction Updates
Spring 2026
Progress on the construction of the English-language secondary school in Québec City
Good news: the project is progressing according to the planned schedule, and work is advancing as expected.
- The teams are currently in the excavation, formwork, and concrete work phase. These activities will alternate and continue throughout the summer.
- At the same time, the fabrication of the steel structure is being prepared off-site in a factory.
- The construction of additional parking spaces for the Centre de services scolaire des Découvreurs, along Noël Carter and Wolfe streets, is expected to be completed within five weeks.
Mitigation Measures
To minimize disruptions, the following measures are in place:
- Construction fences equipped with dust-control screens;
- Street cleaning (mechanical sweeping) around the site, as needed, to reduce dust;
- Installation of a truck-cleaning area (stone bed) at the site exit to limit debris on the road;
- Traffic control personnel present at the site entrance, when required;
- Installation of seismographs to monitor and track vibrations generated by construction activities.
We will continue to keep you informed of upcoming phases and thank you for your cooperation throughout the completion of this important and forward-looking project.
Have a great spring!

Deconstructing to Build Better
We would like to inform you that starting the week of February 9, 2026, deconstruction work on former St. Vincent School will begin. During this period, which is expected to continue until mid‑March, you may notice increased noise from construction machinery, as well as a higher volume of truck traffic around the site.
This marks the very first steps of the project, and each one brings us closer to the opening of our new school – an exciting and meaningful achievement that will benefit our entire community.
New on Our Website
We invite you to take a moment to visit the “New High School” section of our website, where you will find a wide range of information about the project. You can also explore the new “Live from the Construction Site” subsection, which offers a real‑time look at the progress through photos updated hourly from two different angles.
We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this transition. Your support is greatly appreciated, and we wish you a warm and enjoyable winter season.
A Project Preparing for a Greener Environment
As you may have noticed, preparatory work for our new high school is underway. Construction, which will begin shortly, will require selective tree removal on the site.
An arboricultural study identified trees in poor health, including several ash trees affected by the emerald ash borer. Preservation remains a priority: the vast majority of healthy trees will be kept. Naturally, all our interventions comply with current municipal regulations.
Replanting More for a Sustainable Future
Good news! In the long term, the site will host more trees than it currently does. The planting of new trees, already of significant size, will begin as soon as the work is completed.
The school entrance will feature a green walkway lined with mature trees, creating a welcoming and harmonious setting.
This greening initiative will help build, over time, a greener environment that benefits the entire neighbourhood.
