INCLEMENT WEATHER - THE FINAL DECISION BELONGS TO THE PARENTS /GUARDIANS
Sometimes, the decision to close our schools is straightforward. However, in other cases, it’s not as clear-cut. In such situations, we rely on weather forecasts provided by meteorological experts. If we decide to keep our schools open, it’s because we believe student transportation can be carried out safely.
That said, the final decision always rests with parents or guardians, as we cannot assess road conditions across our entire territory. No student should be penalized for staying home under such circumstances.
* School Closures and Transportation – Residents of the Chaudière-Appalaches Region
Specific Scenario for NLES:
- New Liverpool Elementary School (NLES) is located in Chaudière-Appalaches but is considered part of the Québec region schools. If schools in the Québec region close due to inclement weather, NLES will also close.
- Additionnaly, challenging weather conditions in Chaudière-Appalaches could lead to NLES’s closing while other Québec region schools remain open.
- In this case, school transportation would be affected for students living in Chaudière-Appalaches and attending:
- New Liverpool Elementary School
- Quebec High School (Q.H.S.)
- St. Patrick’s High School
- In this case, school transportation would be affected for students living in Chaudière-Appalaches and attending:
If Only NLES Closes:
- CQSB will send an email early in the morning to Chaudière-Appalaches residents and post official information on its website.
- No school transportation will be provided for Q.H.S. and St. Patrick’s (since NLES is the transfer point).
- Families may choose to drive their child to school if they are able, but they will also be responsible for the return trip home.
An unexpected incident may occur, requiring a school to close during the day (e.g., gas leak, power outage, water damage, etc.). Such closures involve significant logistics, including contacting school bus carriers and the parents/guardians of elementary students before allowing students to leave the building.
If such an incident occurs you will be informed:
- According to the establishment’s closure procedure already in place
- Through the School Board’s Website in the "Establishment closure" page
- By email from CQSBinfo@cqsb.qc.ca to the address provided at the school
In closing
Our School Board understand its responsibilities in the areas of safety and education and rest assured that our decisions are always made in the best interest of our students and our staff.
