Kindergarten

Dear Parent(s),

Our team is already at work planning the 2019-2020 school year.

As a school, we always enjoy the beginning of the school year, seeing the happy faces of our students back from vacation, rested and ready to learn. We are also excited to get to know our new little friends, as they often enter school nervous but eager to start the “big” school. It is always an exciting and important moment in a child’s life.

We have an important approach to the Kindergarten beginning-of-the-school-year organization based on the many studies that have shown the importance of making the transition between home and school as smooth as possible. This also applies for children having attended daycare or students who attended our Pre-Kindergarten. Although we might believe that this is not a big change in their life, it can in fact be quite stressful for them. Our goal is to ensure the transition is as positive as possible for all our future Kindergarten students. They will look forward to coming to school every morning.

We will begin the school year with 2 Kindergarten groups. We will not assign students to a specific class (nor teacher) during the first 2 weeks of school. Many students are new to our school and we wish to get to know all the students and note their strengths & challenges before we create the groups, thus responding to the needs of all the students.

During these first 2 weeks of school, your child will rotate between both Kindergarten classes. Both teachers will be teaching and interacting with your child.

Following these 2 weeks, your child will be assigned to a classroom and a teacher, which will begin during the week of September 9th.  You will receive a letter with more detailed information at that time. Please note that our Kindergarten works as a cycle and even though students are separated into homerooms, we will continue to have regular large group activities with all Kindergarten students.

More specifically, this is how it will work…

Wednesday, August 28, 2019

Parents only (not the students) are invited to come to Ste-Foy School to meet the principal, Mrs. Denise Godin and a few staff members.

August 28th from 1:30-2:30pm → All parents will come to school with all school supplies for an informational meeting. Please meet in the cafeteria at 1:30pm.

Following this meeting, you will have forms to fill-out. We ask that you hand us the sheet that specifies where your child goes after school (bus, daycare or pick-up) right away.

At 2:00 pm, after the meeting, parents will head to their child’s locker. Inside they will place their child’s bag of school supplies (identified with child’s name).

Parents will take the checklist sheet that will be placed inside your child’s locker. We ask that parents check off the items that were purchased and leave blanks for the items that are missing. When this is done, you can place the checklist in your child’s locker with all the supplies.

At 2:30pm, all parents are free to go home.
