CQSB Elementary Track and Field Meet

On Monday, May 29th the CQSB Elementary Track and Field Meet took place for the 11th year.  This annual event has taken place at various venues but thanks to the generosity of the Valcartier Community Centre, we’ve had the privilege of using their facilities for the last four years at NO cost.  The organizers, coaches and students are extremely grateful for the kindness of Pamala Hogan and her team.

Over the last few years, we have received financial support from Be Active Quebec.  They have paid for the rental of the truck used to transport equipment and provided snacks for ALL the students.  The last two years, they have brought along their Smoothie bike.  Students were able to blend their smoothies between events and during lunch hour.

This year we had eight schools participate; DDO, Everest, Holland, MEES, Portneuf, St. Vincent, Shawinigan and Ste-Foy.  We had approximately 160 Cycle 3 students participate in all of the following events: high jump, long jump, discus, shot put and the 100m race.  There was one record broken – Grade 6 boys’ discus and the Grade 5 girls’ and Grade 6 boys’ high jump records were both tied by two students.

In addition to the athletes, two students from Everest were part of the ‘Tech Team’.  They spent the day entering the scores of each athlete onto the spreadsheets on the computer. This allows the coaches to then enter each student’s results onto their certificate.  Each school also brings volunteers to help man the events.

The most schools we’ve had participate are ten to date.  Our goal is to one year have all elementary schools participate in the event.  It’s a well-organized event that is enjoyed by all.  It’s a wonderful occasion to celebrate the sportsmanship and athletic ability of CQSB’s young students.
