Riverside Regional Elementary School,
located in the heart of the Saguenay
region, is a relatively small regional
school with a growing population of
close to 300 students. Much like our
counterpart, Riverside Regional High
School, we are part of the Central
Quebec School Board and represent the
only English schools in the region. Our
central location is serviced by a
bussing system that literally brings us
our students from every corner of the
region.
Our being a regional school is perhaps
our biggest strength. Having such a far-
reaching clientele, we continuously
strive to successfully create a very
family oriented environment. High
academic achievement is definitely one
of our main pre-occupations however we
are equally devoted to providing our
students with a safe and caring
environment where respect and personal
growth are in the forefront.
Ensuring that our students have the
strong learning environment they need to
become the best they can be is every
person’s responsibility and goal. Our
fully qualified staff is devoted to
making each child’s learning experience
as complete as possible. Our school
board, through board-sponsored workshops
and continuous access to consultants in
areas such as Literacy, Numeracy, the
Reform, etc, is constantly making sure
that despite our isolation, we are given
the necessary opportunities to better
our craft and keep our teaching fresh
and up to date. Providing our students
with a multitude of in-school services –
librarian, school nurse, resource
person, psychologist, noon hour
supervisors, cafeteria personnel,
custodians, secretary -guarantees them
the complete array of necessary
resources.
Completing the circle is the fact that
we can rely on strong parent
participation. Having both a dynamic
Governing Board and a very devoted
Parent Participation Organization
enables us to state that ours` is truly
a strong and positive learning
community. We also now have a RRES
Foundation and through its fundraising
and help, many in class activities and
school projects get the necessary
support they need to be carried out. We
are also very proud of the fact that we
can count on such strong parental
support during our outings and
educational activities.
The English population of the Saguenay
and all other students eligible to
English instruction under Bill 101, can
rely on the entire Riverside Regional
Elementary School community. We believe
that the sound academic structure and
social support we provide empowers our
students with the necessary skills and
values to ensure their success as
citizens of today and tomorrow.
