Proposed Bill 14

This draft legislation, should it be adopted in its present wording, would not allow for temporary certificates of eligibility to be issued to children of members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Mr. Stephen Burke, Chairman of the Central Québec School Board’s Council of Commissioners, has the firm intention to vigorously oppose the government of Québec’s proposed Bill 14.

This exemption from the application of the Charter of the French Language was granted to the members of the Canadian Armed Forces over 30 years ago by the Parti Québecois, led by the late Mr. René Lévesque, who was then advised in the area of language by the late Mr. Gérald Godin and Dr. Camille Laurin.

To support CQSB and the Canadian Armed Forces who serve our country with courage and dignity, we encourage you to sign the e-petition for the deletion of Articles 79, 80, 81, 88 and 89 of the proposed Bill14:

If you do not have access to a computer, a paper copy of this petition is available for signature in each of our schools/centre and at the Board Office itself (2046 chemin Saint-Louis). You may sign either the paper copy or the electronic copy, but not both.

We invite you to write a letter to your local MNA at the National Assembly informing him/her of your disagreement with the proposed Bill 14; clearly state that you do not believe that the military should be treated any differently in Québec than they are in the rest of Canada, where the military enjoy the freedom of choice for the education of their children.
